Manifesto!

Art for me is the escape from reality. The world is full of grieve that art is what takes me away from it all. I could be fighting the fight but I choose to flight instead. I find myself influenced by stories and elements of the past. That is what lead me to props and set decorating.

Sept 26th Studio Questions
  1. Do you think the value of images has been cheapened with social media?
Social media, influencers, art galleries, knock offs and cheap box stores art.
  1. What keeps a person thinking about the art they see/experience after they've left it?
The emotional, physical and psychological connection stamps the image to our minds, whatever that can be. It may be confusing, shocking, warming or sexual.

Digging further into WAR!!

After I watched Women Art Revolution!! on YouTube, this above video showed up. As absurd as the art form and controversial the subject is in revolutionary female artwork, I understand the need. I feel the anger when I see above how females are viewed and reduced. As long as this "beauty pageant" exists, and contestants enable the audience to view them as objects, the WAR goes on.

Satirical photo about beauty pageants.

An artist that I looked into, also featured in Women Art Revolution!! was Howardena Pindell.

Personal War

I watched !Women Art Revolution in the midst of a chaotic, sleep deprived couple of days and I felt like our chaos may be related but it exists in a parallel dimension.

Here is my ....err.... Dinner party!!!

I decided to put effort into making Keto Crepes with hazelnut spread and blue berry jelly!!

They fought a war against discrimination on their own work and sexuality. I fight the fight that is void of sexuality, and replaced by food. Thinking about not having the strength to collectively fight a huge fight. I fight a tiny fight in my own world. Tiny in comparison because its huge to me.

"We don't want to die."

I believe Betsy brought up the issue of violence against women in Afghanistan and I immediately remembered reading this article on NPR website.

Turkish women decry the rise in violence and abuse.

My Enchanted Forest

I picture an old man sitting on that bench, a fire roaring right in fright of him and a small crowd of adults and children alike, all listening intently to his wise tale.

This is a photo I took on one of my walks while visiting the coast of Virginia. The scene set in itself as a gathering bench where folk tales are told. Nature played a huge part in stories told in the past. The backdrop was amazing mother nature as people spend more time outdoors in houses that didn't have heavy doors that separated the occupants. Life was lived inside and out. Household chores were done outside too. That reflects onto the narrative of the folk tales.

So when I walk into a path like this I stop and look around. Wonder who may have threaded through this path, what stories were build or told here. The mystery of it draws me in.

Araby by James Joyce

A visual enhancing story.

I vision the narrator's world, as very bleak and dark.

It talks about shadows and darkness repetitively.

Until he mentions Mangan, her figure defined by the light. The curve on her neck was caught by the light of the lamp.

She mentions the Araby Bazaar and his world is filled with curiosity. The bazaar is a metaphor of him exploring his feelings while his heart filled with butterflies just like discovering the bazaar filled with mysterious, exotic and colorful oriental trinkets, lamps and rugs.

Alas he arrived at the Bazaar, and it wasn't what he thought it would be. Mangan is destined for the convent, and the Bazaar is looking dark and bleak again.

A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings.

Photo collage by me.

The old man looks away, aware of the unnecessary attention he is getting but he sits there. Just looks away and endure the cruelty of humanity and the fellow winged creatures.
